The AZ Rhythm Connection has a convenient beginner friendly and intermediate level class

Our classes are noted for their fun and welcoming atmosphere. For those who want to learn the basics of hand drumming, we promise a great experience. The focus of the class is the West African Djembe and Djun. Extra drums are always available. If you have been wanting to learn, AZRC classes are the best place for you to take that first step. We take the time to make sure you are comfortable.

As one of our students describes the class:

We come to get lost in a vibratory groove. Under Frank's direction we start slowly and methodically and gradually increase in proficiency until many sounds meld into one. Then we drum faster until our minds relax, then faster yet until the room becomes a sound beacon to the universe and hold there for a while. Then Frank takes up the pace requiring one more release of tension to keep our hands and arms moving faster than we thought possible. Looks dart between us as we wonder how much we can take. Our spirits are so joyful until Frank brings us all to a crashing halt! You might hear several of us call out a spontaneous whew! Then Frank starts us all back up again a second later and we jump right back into the groove only it's better and more in sync this time. Before the class ends someone softens the lights and the drumming becomes softer and more free. Out comes the little sweet sounds of flute or harp or jingles and taps like a soft heartbeat. With all our senses heightened and totally in the moment we partake in what feels more like a sound prayer that finally winds to a whisper. We return to our homes completely spent yet exhilarated. Thus with a joyful spirit we all come to drum class to have our cares wrung out of us like dish rags. It's a shared experience that bonds us together in community.

Classes are on Friday evenings. Drop-ins are welcome. Give yourself a couple of hours of rhythmic joy by checking out our class. We hope to see you there.
